Summary Reports

Substance Misuse and Violence Prevention (SMVP) staff within Student Life offer a variety of presentations for classrooms, student organizations, and residence halls on health-related topics to promote healthy lifestyles, health maintenance, disease/injury prevention, and interpersonal violence protection for Texas A&M University students and the campus community. After each presentation, participants were surveyed to ascertain their satisfaction with each presentation, whether the topics presented were relevant to them, and to gain insight into future improvements needed. This is the eleventh year that Student Affairs Planning, Assessment & Research (SAPAR) has partnered with SMVP on this project.

Student executives within the MSC Committee for the Awareness of Mexican-American Culture (MSC CAMAC) lead the development and execution of the Student Conference on Latinx Affairs (SCOLA) each spring. To prepare the student executives for this task, a series of leadership and event planning sessions were held during the fall and early spring prior to and during the planning of SCOLA. The MSC CAMAC advisor and leadership wanted to understand what the MSC CAMAC student executives learned from attending these sessions that impacted the planning and execution of SCOLA. The attached report summarizes the results of the assessment of learning.

According to the staff Intranet site, the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) Staff Development Team “works to enhance the competencies of professionals in the Division of Student Affairs by facilitating purposeful, innovative, and engaging activities that educate, train, and develop.” This includes hosting six-month division meeting programs per academic year. The Staff Development Team wanted to assess division staff to determine if the monthly programs were meeting their needs and gather ideas for future meetings. Student Affairs Planning, Assessment & Research have assisted the Staff Development Team in assessing their monthly programs; however, this was the first time for this needs assessment.

According to its website (http://bigevent.tamu.edu/), “The Big Event is the largest, one-day, student-run service project in the nation where students of Texas A&M University come together to say ‘Thank You’ to the residents of Bryan and College Station.” The Big Event leaders worked with Student Affairs Planning, Assessment & Research to understand how Bryan/College Station community members and volunteers reacted to their experience with The Big Event (TBE). This was the 20th time that Student Affairs Planning, Assessment & Research (SAPAR) had helped The Big Event in assessing community members’ or volunteers’ experiences.

Student Assistance Services (SAS) is a unit in Student Life where students are often referred to for reasons such as concerning behavior, sexual violence, withdrawal from school, student welfare checks, and general consultation. Student Assistance Services wanted to gather feedback from students who met with staff in their office. Student Affairs Planning, Assessment & Research has assisted in this assessment project since the 2018-2019 academic year.

Staff from Student Activities wanted to understand the student leaders’ experiences and how their learning through these experiences related to the Texas A&M University (TAMU) undergraduate learning outcomes and the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) career readiness competencies. Student Affairs Planning, Assessment & Research (SAPAR) assisted Student Activities staff in creating an assessment to capture these student leaders’ learning related to the TAMU undergraduate learning outcomes of critical thinking and communication of student leaders from multiple sponsored and affiliated Texas A&M University student organizations. The attached report summarizes the findings and recommendations to increase student leader learning in the co-curricular.

The Student Community Standards (SCS) wanted to assess the learning and overall experiences of students attending the Ethics and Decision Making (EDM) Workshop. The survey assessed whether students could identify and list influences on their values and decisions and understand strategies for making decisions. The survey also requested participants’ feedback about the effectiveness of the facilitators. Student Affairs Assessment & Research (SAPAR) has assisted SCS in assessing the workshop since 2018; this year, the workshop was offered in both in- person and virtual formats.

Off Campus Student Services (OCSS) supports students living off campus in the Bryan/College Station area, including helping students understand leases and find housing. Off Campus Student Services hosted a community luncheon on April 24, 2025, to educate local citizens on events, neighborhood codes, and being good neighbors. Off Campus Student Services staff will use this information to inform future programs and student support. This is the fourth time Student Affairs Planning, Assessment & Research has worked with OCSS to assess their community luncheons.
